The Army-Navy Screen Magazine Number 04 (Navy Edition), partial. (AKA The War, NO. 4, 1943)
  • Showtime Presents Joy Hodges: Singer Joy Hodges with a video pin-up for the boys. After the song is over she is seen in a radio broadcasting studio & the "Command Performance" radio show intro theme begins (making it seem like she's getting ready to begin a broadcast of that AFRS radio show).

The Army-Navy Screen Magazine was produced by the U.S. Army Signal Corps Pictorial Service, under the supervision of Col. Frank Capra, who came up with the idea. It was released twice a month and shown to military troops as a 20-minute newsreel.

"By the end of the war, the Army-Navy Screen Magazine reached an enormous weekly audience of 4.2 million. It had become for American soldiers all over the world a communal experience that greatly influenced their perception of the war."

It featured short documentary films, news from back home, and short training films like Dr. Seuss' Private Snafu cartoons. I've uploaded the entire Screen Magazine and also each segment as a separate file (some editions are comprised of 1 long film, though).

Description at the National Archives: "Reel 1, Part 1 shows Jack Dempsey on Coast Guard duty, Gene Tunney directing calisthenics in the Navy, and scenes from the Dempsey-Tunney fight of 1927. Part 2, various animals talk and sing. Part 3 shows early airplane flights in Calif. Part 4, Japanese Kamikaze planes are shot down. (Reel 2) Describes Japanese education; shows school children bowing to a shrine, learning to write, working in fields, exercising, weaving, and receiving medical care. Part 5, Joy Hodges sings."

As always, any error or typo is mine and if you enjoy my uploads or if you intend to make $ or otherwise profit from these files, please consider making a donation to a veteran's charity of your choice and/or itself. Thanks. :)
